impact studies, regional and industrial analyses, benefit-cost assessments, the
development of industry and corporate models and databases, and the design and
implementation of economic information systems.
Informetrica has a proven record of providing effective
economic research to business, all levels of government, and other
organizations. This is available on a retainer or project-specific basis.
The Success Formula
A full-time staff of economists, statisticians, and systems
analysts, experienced in all aspects of the research process and with a
thorough knowledge of Canadian institutions and the problems they face, work in
teams to analyze problems and effectively communicate results.
The unique research resources developed and maintained by
Informetrica staff include specialized databases, econometric and financial
models, software programs, and research methods used to produce the forecasts.
Specializations
- Policy & Regulatory: Informetrica completed a
variety of different studies related to policy, such as assessments of
policy or regulatory changes or policy evaluation. We have flexible professionals,
adept at triangulating qualitative and quantitative research methodologies
and collecting and analysing data from various internal and external
sources. Our clients highly value the knowledge and experience of our
staff and our capabilities in tailoring studies to their needs. We
completed over 30 Policy & Regulatory Studies in the past 15 years.
Clients include, for example, the Government of Nova Scotia and the
Northern Economic Development Agency.
- Economic Impact: Using The Informetrica Model,
Informetrica assesses the economic impact, both national and provincial,
of mega-projects, investments, environmental initiatives, government
policies, prices, foreign economic activity and international market
conditions. Impact studies provide details of the demand, supply, costs,
and prices for over 280 industries. We often complement impact studies
with benefit-cost assessments. Our clients use our findings as a base for
internal planning and for presenting project or policy proposals to
government agencies. In the past five years, we completed more than 30
Impact Studies in a variety of areas like environment, construction or
social policy. Clients include, among others, the Government of Yukon,
PricewaterhouseCoopers, and Industry Canada.
- Economic Models and Information Systems:
Model-building and technical support projects are crucial for client who
have their own models or wish to build one. Our clients draw on our
capabilities of
- Definition, organization and management of
"in-house" data and reports;
- Organization and use of publicly available databases;
- Programming implementation of statistical and other
algorithms; and
- The design and implementation of fully-integrated
information systems.
We completed over 55 projects of this
type in the past five years and are uniquely integrated with the modeling and
forecasting capacity and the consultation process of the National Energy Board,
Environment Canada and Natural Resources Canada.
- Microeconomic: Using Micro-Data, Informetrica
analyzes various issues and/or specific questions, usually for (but not
restricted to) specific industries. Microeconomic studies also include the
evaluation of distributional effects and changes to the Canadian tax and
transfer system. Data sources include, among others, Public-Use Micro-Data
Files by Statistics Canada. Model applications can be executed in The
Informetrica Model or a variety of third party software (for example,
SPSD/M by Statistics Canada). Our clients highly value our specialized knowledge
of SPSD/M as well as our capabilities to help them analyze specific policy
changes, for instance changes to the Canadian tax and transfer system. We
completed more than 15 Microeconomic Studies in the past five years, for
clients like Human Resources and Skills Development Canada and the
Canadian Diabetes Association.
- Economic Background: Economic Background Studies
provide a tailored forecast utilizing The Informetrica Model, a
“state-of-the-art" and the largest macroeconomic model. The
Informetrica Model is a sophisticated, consistent and up-to-date
interpretation of Canadian economic conditions and draws on the highest
quality database. Tailored forecasts usually include a reference case and
one or more alternative scenarios. Economic Background Studies also serve
as inputs to our clients models. Clients rely on our sophisticated model
as input to their own model or to obtain the most reliable forecast for
their research, analysis, planning and decision-making process. We have
undertaken over 40 Economic Background Studies in the past five years,
applying to a variety of areas and industries. Our clients include Natural
Resources Canada and the Manitoba Bureau of Statistics, among others.
